1. Hi there Assaf, nice to get a little bit more information about who is Cortex...
Cortex is me, Assaf Weizmann from South of Israel signed in the Spanish label Materia Records and manager of Boundless Music (Israel) and The Jet Lag booking agency.
2. You started your musical careers at an early age... Tell us a little bit about your musical background and how you finally came into psytrance, decide to produce your own tracks?
I have been producing music since the age of 15. I play the keyboard.
After only collecting music for some time I started to produce until now.
3. How would you describe your style? What is typical for your music, what are the characteristics of your tracks?
Are there special elements that make your sound unique?
My style - like the Materia concept - is the new full on, more psy stuff in the music.
I think in my album Time For Salvation - has this new line of music; something that mixes full on to dark.
4. Tell us a little bit about your releases that have been released on different labels. Which one was your favourite so far?
My releases so far have been at labels like Materia Records (Spain), Shivlink Records (India), Moonsun Records (Greece), Up Records and Sun Dance Records (Australia), Spliff Music (Israel) and more.
But my favourite without a doubt is my first album that release in this days TIME FOR SALVATION!
5. Is there any collaboration with other artists or do you have any side-projects?
Sure in my album I have 3 tracks with Sidhartha (Portugal), Monstar (Israel) and Shake The Snake (Israel).
I have new project with guitars and we have new album in process right now the project call TEMPO SHRINE. Furthermore I have 2 new vs. tracks with Kali and Puzzle (Materia Records).
6. Where do you get your inspirations from? Are there any special artists, events, situations, people, friends,...
I get my inspirations from stuff like The Doors, Pink Floyd as well as from big names in the psy scene like Simon Posford, GMS, Logic Bomb and more.
7. Actually you are working on your first album... When may we expect them to be released?
Actually my album is already finished and has been released in November 2007 on Materia Records: TIME FOR SALVATION
8. Some words about the actual development (expanding) of the psytrance scene worldwide. Good or bad? Will the hype lead to the end of psy? Or will the hype never end?
I think its very good that the psy trance scene is expanding that’s the only way that psy trance can be come something for everyone anywhere.
9. You are also working in a production studio as sound engineer. Do you think this work improves your production skills?
Sound is a very big part of psytrance and I think that every artists should know the basics of sounds to improve.
10. CORTEX - How did you choose this as your artist name? Does it have a special meaning or is it just a fantasy name?
The meaning of cortex is a layer the gose around the brain and every command is going thru it and it looked like a really deep meaning to me and besides that its short and catchy ...
